Reaction Shots: Sakura Gari 5 RAW

GET READY FOR CAPSLOOOOOOOCK! Oh, and spoilers. *g*

1. I TOTALLY CALLED DOCTOR DUDE ASSAULTING/PUTTING MOVES ON/SCREWING SOUMA.

I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I KNEW IT!

2. OH GOD THAT BUSINESS DUDE IS A JERK.

3. POOR SOUMA HIS LIFE REALLY DOES SUCK EVEN THOUGH HE’S CHOOSING THE ENTIRELY WRONG WAY TO GO ABOUT REMEDYING THAT

4. POOR MASATAKA HIS LIFE SUCKS EVEN MORE HE MUST FEEL LIKE HIS OWN BODY IS BETRAYING HIM OH GOD.

5. And Souma totally has to see Masataka having fun with his friends while not wearing much at all, right after he let the business dude screw him. (Come on, you know that’s totally what was going on. Nice way to seal the deal, eh?)

5a. I think he’s feeling a combination of jealous and guilty — he’s focusing not on Masataka’s body, but his face; his smile. He’s seeing Masataka as carefree and innocent…as what Souma isn’t (he just screwed Saeki the business dude for part of their deal) and what Souma’s taking away from him. Souma doesn’t belong with someone so pure, and he knows it, and asdflkjafsd I bet he wants to be cavorting in the water with a mostly naked Masataka but he lost the right to be friends with Masataka when he forced Masataka to become his lover.

6. SOUMA TOOK THE HARMONICA. HE TOOK THE GODDAMN HARMONICA. THAT BASTARD!

6a. But ohhhh god he must feel so low and lonely and he’s afraid that Masataka will realize how much better he is than Souma and leave, and he doesn’t want Masataka to leave, even though he knows he doesn’t deserve him and probably never did.

7. Souma changes positions so he doesn’t have to see Masataka’s face, doesn’t have to see his pain, doesn’t have to see the proof that he’s tearing Masataka apart and doesn’t deserve him.

But he doesn’t stop, you see.

8. Oh god what the hell did Souma give Masataka? Was it the money? What? What? I thought Masataka had already given his brother the money…

9. OH MY GOD SOUMA WHAT THE HELL

10. WHAT IS HE OFFERING MASATAKA? WHAT? WHAT?

10a. Theory: the only relationship model Souma knows is to be possessed by another. Multiple people claim to possess him or want to possess him; he is the object of their desire. After the incident in the warehouse it is this relationship model he attempts to put in place with Masataka, but with himself in the role of the possessor. Obviously this isn’t working; he’s hurting Masataka and he feels awful and guilty. So when he offers up his wrists to Masataka, he’s offering to reverse that. To put their relationship into the way relationships “should” work — with Souma as the object of ownership and desire, not the other way around. He is offering himself to Masataka. And he wants that to work, badly; he thinks that if the relationship is the “right” way around then things will be better. They have to be, right?

BUT WHERE DOES THE WRIST-SLITTING COME IN? It must have something to do with his mother, and how she killed herself. BUT WHAT?

11. The katana is the one Sakurako used to cut Souma, isn’t it? She took the harmonica, knowing it would drive a wedge between Souma and Masataka; she was hoping for a fight, for Souma to be rejected, whereupon she would…step in? Repossess him for herself.

She did not think he would try to kill himself as a result of their rejection; she did not believe that he would care enough for Masataka’s words to hurt. Maybe she thought Souma was just playing with Masataka all along.

12. I NEEDED THE SCANLATION, LIKE, LAST WEEK.
